Quit-O-Rama

A few months back, I blogged about how people need to stop using the word “Nice” all the time, but I would like to throw something else out there that I implore society to stop using. This is the use of the suffix “O-rama” or just “rama” to indicate, well, whatever it indicates. It seems that this phenomenon owes its origins to the word “Panorama”, at least according to this Wikipedia entry for “Cinerama”.

The other week I passed by a store called “Frames-O-Rama” or something like that and I decided it should be put to rest. I dunno, whenever I hear of something ending like this, it reminds me of somewhere Richie Cunningham and Potise Webber would have patronized on “Happy Days”. The Fonz, of course, never would have gone because he was cool (and he was busy taking calls in the men’s bathroom from Pinky Tuscadero).

I have decided that there are some things that could end in “O-Rama” though. The first would be if you started a 2008 U.S. Presidential Campaign surplus goods store called “Obama O-Rama”. Anyone that doesn’t hate their country and eat puppies would find this hilarious. I just checked though, and www.obamaorama.com is already taken, although it seems to be of little substance kind of like the souls of people who bring their pets to work.

Second, you could start a music festival entitled “Osama O-Rama” mashing up the world’s most wanted man’s best video clips set to dance remixes of the songs on Madonna’s Immaculate Collection cds. “You just keep on pushing my love over the Afghan/Pakistan borderline”…sing it. I can’t wait for the serious part that is set to “Live to tell”, and I bet such a festival would go over quite well here in San Francisco in case you plan one: “Osama-O-Rama-’08″

Ok, in addition to these, there are three other things I can think of which are similar, but ok:

The first two are 80′s bands, so you might want to keep that in mind. I’ve never heard of someone with the last name of O’Rama, but the Irish can speak the way they do and still understand each other, so I wouldn’t count them out on anything.

Done-o-rama.

  1. Funny blog… I didn’t know what to do with http://www.obamaorama.com. It is a mindless site, but I do not take my pet to work. Perhaps if I have time I may take your advice. Thanks!
