Ready For The World- Oh Sheila

http://youtube.com/watch?v=locRDFcIuiY

I was nearly brought to a violent rage early this morning upon discovering that although the Universal Music Group had been kind enough to post a high quality video of 1985′s Oh Sheila by Ready For the World on YouTube, they had disabled the embedding function for the video, so you’ll have to do with just a link to it.

Ok wait, let me make sure I understand this…someone somewhere decided that the video for Oh Sheila was above the normal protocol for videos posted on You Tube? Unfortunately, that isn’t all that’s wrong with this picture. In fact, the entire picture (video) is well…wrong, but you’ll see what I mean.

Further wronging by this group includes naming an album Ruff N Ready, and they even did a reunion album in 2004 entitled She Said She Wants Some. Whoever she was, I bet what she wanted was some damn quiet. Although this video lacks as much taste as British cuisine, it makes up for it slightly because of it’s nostalgia-factor, and still contains better quality, production, insight, foresight, perspective, vocals, instrumentation, soul, & depth than anything ever produced by the Dave Matthews band…

David, no one needs to know!

I don’t have to bad mouth Dave Matthews, Cisco, I just do because no one else will. Also, “Oh Sheila” was apparently sampled for a dance hit in the UK in 2003 entitled “Love Me Right” by Angel City for those of you in need of more Ready For The World trivia.

  3. Cisco says:

Why do you have to bad mouth Dave Matthews???

  4. Andrea says:

I love the “uh uh uh” dance move. Davey, could you do that for me next time I see you?

for those of us unlucky enough to have known (and i admit, loved) this song the first time around, the resurfacing isn’t funny or cool but completely embarrassing. i actually saw these guys live! and yeah, i thought they rocked. my hair was like that but bigger too. can you hear me dying of humiliation from across the country?

This song is classic 80′s R&B with a tinge of 70′s funk…yes, the Gerry curls and white suits seem like fashion feaux pas by today’s standards, but the music, especially the Larry Graham/Bootsy Collins/Rick James inspired bass line and Prince and The Revolution style guitar licks, are sooo phat! Close you eyes and let the funk wash over you like a bottle of SOOOUUULL GLO!
