What’s Life Got To Do With It?

I’m sure you already knew this, but legendary musician and Rock N’ Roll pioneer Ike Turner passed away today in San Marcos, California at the age of 76. Although his influence was wide ranging and acknowledged by some of the greatest musicians of our day (so, not the Dave Matthews Band of course), he was also portrayed as a physically abusive drug addict in What’s Love Got To Do With It?, the bio-pic about Ike’s ex-wife, Tina Turner. I haven’t seen it, but I hear it is pretty intense. Like way more intense than the upcoming Rambo film based on what I gathered from the previews.

The Wikipedia entry on Ike states that he was rumored to have been married 14 times, although he was only married 4 times publicly (rookie). By the way, did you know Tina Turner (real name Anna Mae Bullock) is from a town named Nutbush, Tennessee? You’d think it was one of those clever marketing ideas being enacted by the Democratic party to make fun of the US President, but I swear it’s a legit name. How funny is that? Nutbush. I bet it’s kind of like that town from the Mad Max movie she did that song for, except with more NASCAR fans, trees, and less Mel Gibsons, but an overall greater number of guys named “Mel”. Ha ha…Nutbush.

my favorite thing about Ike was that he would refer to himself in the third person. i’m not sure why i find that so amusing, but i do. something about the combination of arrogance and ignorance just works.
